Our ever popular Minecraft booth will be present at Insomnia48 with even more exciting competitions and general fun times for all. We will have the classics, and some new fun modes for everyone to get involved with.
We have old favourites, classics with a twist, and an entirely new game mode.
Creative Build – NEW UPDATE!
The competition that you can play from your own seat, the Minecraft Creative Build, returns with a twist. Now you can use WorldEdit to craft your creations even quicker then before. This means you don’t need to spend your entire weekend placing block by block just to make a wall, you can get the bulk of the work done in a flash and then spend more time on the little fun details. Don’t worry, a guide will be available for those unfamiliar with the mod.
Parkour
A firm favourite with the one day visitors, the Parkour competition will see players trying to set the fastest times running on the latest custom track. Sprint, hop and jump to get to the finish line, and the top times of the day are in with a chance to win a prize! New track every day.
Spleef
This simple arena based battle is great fun. Knock the floor out from under your opponents and watch them plummet to their doom! Balancing digging, jumping and looking where you are going is the key to victory, but watch out, the arena will shrink if you are not fast enough.
Hunger Games
Based on the popular film with the same name, the Hunger Games pits you against 7 opponents with only one rule: survive! Find and collect secret items and evade your enemies, or be aggressive and try and eliminate them first, the choice is yours. But hang around too long and the world starts to catch fire, forcing you into a conflict in the middle of the island & the winner is the last player alive.
The Walls – NEW!
Combining building and combat, “The Walls” is a return to the roots of Minecraft! You can craft armour, build traps, cannons, fortresses and much more… just like classic Minecraft, the world is yours. After 15 minutes the walls between the 4 teams are removed, and you fight to the death. Hidden treasures will give you an edge with unobtainable items on this limited world. We will be playing this in a 2v2v2v2 format, so bring a friend! For a good idea about how this actually works, check out this video.
To take part in many of these activities you just need to show up with any ticket type, and speak to our Minecraft team at the booth in the exhibition hall. Due to the prolonged time required to make a qualifying entry for the creative build you will require a BYOC ticket. For more information on all of these competitions click here.
Thank you messioso for the blog about double elimination, I am actually curious to find out what people’s opinions on cutting the final two rounds from a tournament are, making the lower bracket a race for 3rd/4th rather then a method to get back up and win the tournament. Please get in touch over on our forums if you have an opinion on it.
Anyway, when I wrote my blog two weeks ago I kind of made a promise to do a part 2, so lets get on with that shall we? I stopped after Insomnia43, and the Starcraft 2 tournament in the summer of 2011. On to i44! Warning, it’s a long one!
Another week, another eSports blog from the team here at Multiplay – I decided to talk about something I have a huge passion for – the UK Starcraft 2 community.
Starcraft, Insomnia and Me.
I joined the Starcraft scene during the SC2 beta some 12 years after the original game was released. Since there was so much hype over this new title, after such a successful predecessor, I had to be involved at an eSports level. I was a Call of Duty PC tournament administrator at the Insomnia Gaming Festival, and pretty much begged for them to run Starcraft 2 tournaments at the event, and to let me run them. Thanks to Multiplay for letting it happen back at Insomnia40, when I was just part of one of the awesome red shirt teams that run tournaments at the events. They took a chance on me and if they did not, I doubt I would be where I am today.
Lets go though the first four Starcraft 2 tournaments we hosted at iSeries. Read more
2013 is here and it’s time to start thinking about eSports in the year ahead with Insomnia48 not actually that far away (10 weeks!).
We wanted to start pushing out some more blog style content to you guys from the eSports department here at Multiplay towers* so you can see some of the reasoning behind some of the many hundreds of choices we make regarding rule-sets, schedules and other tournament details. So here I am, Matt ‘Kharne’ Macdonald writing my first eSports blog for the Insomnia community.
This week I want to tell you about the 5 tournaments we have already announced just before the Christmas break. On PC we have Starcraft 2 – The ESET UK Masters, The Multiplay Counter Strike: Global Offensive Cup and The Multiplay League of Legends Cup, and on Xbox360 we have FIFA13 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Before you all go off to the holiday season (and eat drink, be merry and practise SC2 of course), we thought we would give you some food for thought from the Multiplay eSports department!
2013 is going to be amazing, with some of the biggest eSports tournaments in the UK ever! Insomnia48 will host loads of awesome tournaments as usual, but we wanted to introduce you to 5 of the biggest!
The ESET UK Masters – £10,000
The hottest tournament series to ever hit Starcraft 2 in the UK – the ESET UK masters will be at Insomnia48 with a BLOOMIN’ HUGE prize pool of £10,000! With qualifiers in the new year starting in January, and a BYOC qualifier on the first day of the event. Expect some news soon about whether this will be based in Wings of Liberty, or Heart of the Swarm, but either way it will be AMAZING! Thanks ESET UK!
Counter Strike: Global Offensive – £4,000+
If anyone can remember an Insomnia without Counter Strike in some form then they should probably be awarded something. After fm-eSports TOXIC took the gold in Insomnia47′s CS:GO launch tournament, we are back with another huge tournament with prize money that can scale up to a incredible £10,000!
(Xbox360) Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 – £4,000+
The Console community at Insomnia just keeps on growing! And with it, the prize pools for the Call of Duty tournaments on Xbox360. This spring has us hosting our Black Ops 2 tournament with a prize pool of up to £7,680!
There are some important changes about how players attend. Every match will take place on our TUP stations, with players needing to bring their own discs. Players no longer need to be a resident with their own console and screen. This will improve the excitement levels of the matches as all teams will play opposite each other in head to head matches!
League of Legends – £2,500+
League of Legends is going from strength to strength, with our LoL community getting larger and larger every event, this event we return with a whopping £2,500 prize pool, thats £1,000 more then i47.
(Xbox360) FIFA13 1v1 – £1,000+
FIFA13 is probably one of the most played games in the UK, and everyone knows somebody that thinks they could take on the world. Now here is your chance to prove you are the best with a prize pool that could possibly hit £2,000 with the 64 player cap! It’s not every day you can win that sort of money playing FIFA.
Get involved!
If you like the sound of one of these tournaments next year, then make sure you take advantage of our Early Bird offer (20% off for BYOC attendees!) by visiting the i48 tickets page and buying yours now! Black Ops 2 and FIFA13 are playable on a BYOC ticket, but only require at least a TUP (Turn up and play) ticket to take part. Sign ups will open in the new year, so keep an eye out for that!
