To most people, Paul Tonkinson might be known as ‘that Northern bloke from the telly.’ If you don’t recognise his face, you might recognise his voice as ‘that Northern bloke from the radio.’
Now a bona fide veteran of the comedy stage, Paul emerged as a stand up back in 1992 when he won the Time Out ‘New Act Of The Year’ award. Five years later he went one better to win the Time Out ‘Stand Up Comic Of The Year’ award. The accolades didn’t stop there as in 2002 Paul won the Jongleurs ‘Best Comedy Performer’ award.

There was a point when it was almost impossible to turn on the TV or radio and not see or hear Paul. He started his TV career on BBC’s The Sunday Show and went on to be a presenter on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast. Paul has also hosted his own shows including Dicing With Debt and appeared on numerous talking heads Top 100 and Do You Remember…? style shows.
On the radio, Paul has hosted the Breakfast Show on both Xfm London and Manchester and had his own show on BBC London as well as presenting pieces for Radio 4’s seminal comedy news shows Loose Ends and The Week Ending.

Paul Tonkinson is a professional, whether it be as a stand up or a Northerner, and his impressive cv is testament to this. He is also a performer who won’t forget his roots, and this shows by him still doing stand up after so many years on the television.

Formed in 2013, Saints Of Sin are a hard rock band playing their own original music. They are best described as “Turbo-Charged Pop”. Their sound is made up of melodic, anthemic choruses and vocal harmonies, backed up by powerful guitar riffs, shredding solos and driving bass and drums.

“Saints Of Sin” are certainly on a mission to bring back hair metal to the masses and it is certain if they keep on producing performances like this it will happen in a big way.
Rock Regeneration, June 2013

They pride themselves on effortlessly blending a strong 80’s hair metal style and image mixed with a modern edge. To be at a Saints Of Sin show is to behold a powerful, adrenaline fuelled, live performance full of attitude and displaying energetic showmanship. Their undying drive and passion for music blended with a fun party mentality makes Saints Of Sin appeal to more than just die hard rock and metal fans.

Special Effect puts the fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with disabilities by helping them to play video games. By using technology ranging from modified joypads to eye-control, they find a way for people to play to the very best of their abilities.

But they’re not just doing it for fun. By leveling the playing field, they are bringing families and friends together and having a profoundly positive impact on therapy, confidence and rehabilitation.

“Special Effect started because it had to!” says Dr Mick Donegan, Founder and head of the charity. “I’ve worked in the field of disability and technology for many years and, time and time again, parents of children with disabilities and people with disabilities themselves kept saying that they found it difficult or impossible to access mainstream video games and leisure technology.”
