Volunteering

Multiplay has been inviting volunteers to gaming events for over 20 years and it’s a fantastic way to give your time and have a great time doing it. Whether you steward, help with stage content or work on the festival's infrastructure you will be joining a team of hundreds, united by a love of gaming.

There are several teams that help to run the event from stewarding to infrastructure. Please refer to the list below to see more details about each team at the event.

In order to apply as a volunteer at the Insomnia Gaming Festival, you must be 18 or older.

The 'Blue team' are the responsible for the core network infrastructure at the event. Often found in tunnels or in hidden rooms, the team setup and run all the core event services, game servers and network that the event relies on.

Schedule: Tuesday morning - Tuesday morning

Working with our logistics staff to build and break the event and be the central hub for all event logistics. Work is physically demanding, but a lot of fun. Steel toe cap boots are mandatory for this team (not provided).

Schedule: Wednesday morning - Tuesday morning

The customer facing technical wizards of the event. Setting-up & packing-down the power and network for BYOC; and running the HelpDesk during the event to help diagnose customer’s technical issues.

Working on live stages, operating production equipment and helping the stage shows run smoothly.

This team serves as the front line in customer service, the team covers a lot of different areas, from checking in attendees to both day and evening events, stewarding and queue management in the expo hall, to dealing with general guest enquiries. Whether you’re new to volunteering or a seasoned veteran, this team is perfect for you!

This team leads all the fun activities for the BYOC during the event, from the I-hunt, social games area, community game servers and scheduled games. It’s fun on a bun.

Supporting the creator team, and their requirements around stage slots and public appearances.

From interviews to official Insomnia trailers, you will assist in the creation of all public facing media for Insomnia. Whether you're interested in editing, filming or generally creating something awesome, the content team would love to have you on board. Plus we're the best team. #justsayin

The Esports Team are our tournament administrators. They set up and run the tournaments for our BYOC and day attendees.

A few notes...

  • Once you’ve applied, the Insomnia Festival Team will review all applications, and invite successfully candidates to officially ‘sign-up’ (congratulations!).
  • Before the festival, your team’s Team Leader will confirm site plans, and you’ll be sent many more details about the event, including an outline of your personal schedule (you’ll need to turn up to all allocated shifts!).
  • Uniform is provided for live event days
  • Food is provided for each day you’re on a shift
  • Campsite access is included at the main Insomnia series (NEC)
  • Parking is included (Limited Spaces)
  • All volunteer will get: 1 complimentary Family & Friends ticket for any show day, 4 complimentary Family & Friends tickets for Monday, and the opportunity to apply for a BYOC seat (subject to limited availability).

Indie Zone

The Insomnia Gaming Festival's Indie Zone offers independent developers the chance to show case their game to thousands of attendees over each of our events.

We offer a brandable space in our dedicated zone, along with a PC, monitor and peripherals, all for free. All we ask in return is that you bring your game in a playable state for our attendees to enjoy and give you valuable feedback. Many Indie Developers come back time and time again because of the quality of interaction and feedback our attendees offer.

Please note that the Insomnia Indie Zone is not able to accept games with 18+ content. Any game with 16+ rated content will be approved on a case by case basis per event.
